Description
Is your child ready to give up their habit of digit or pacifier sucking? Most
five-year-olds are developmentally ready when they know right from wrong,
understand concepts about time, days, and weeks, and display some self- control
and self-denial.
If tthe sucking habit persists as permanent teeth erupt, there can be dental
consequences: anterior open bit, tongue thrust, overjet, class II malocclusion,
or posterior crossbite. The tongue resting on the palate can replace the digit
or pacifier resting on the palate which can trigger the vagus nerve ending to
produce a hormone that enhances a feeling of well-being for the child.
A special motivating program is designed to help children discontinue their digit
or pacifier sucking habit quickly and in a positive fun way. The parents’ role
is to be empathetic and supportive. The first appointment will include an
orofacial myofunctional evaluation.
