About Brainspotting

Brainspotting is my primary modality for services as it effective for releasing trauma. “Where you look, affects how you feel…” Brainspotting (BSP) is a newer therapy that was developed by David Grand, Ph.D., as discovery from using an adapted form of EMDR with survivors of 9/11 in New York City.

BSP makes use of eye positioning and the guidance of a therapist to help clients locate, focus, process and release a wide range of emotionally and body-based conditions. It is a brain-based tool that encourages the natural self-healing ability of the body-brain connection. When a Brainspot is “activated,” the lower levels of the brain provide signals to the therapist and/or the client to find the “spot” to focus on in order to process and release emotions, memories, dysfunctional thinking patterns, and body memories of trauma or other problem areas where clients have felt stuck. BSP can also be used to find places of feeling calmer, more grounded, connected, and capable. This process is often enhanced with the use of bilateral music or nature sounds. Brainspotting is a therapeutic tool that can be easily integrated with other modes of therapy.
