ACTIVITY:

Focus Inward: Breathe and Live

Challenge: Spend 10 minutes twice a day in silent focus.

Some people may call this “meditation” (as do I) and the purpose is to take a break during the day when you feel stressed or aggravated.

You may choose to spend 10 minutes in the morning and evening or at different times during the day. It is important to ensure that in those 10 minutes you just spend time with YOU.

You may turn on meditation or classical music, you may light a candle, or you may just close your eyes or – especially if in the office — focus on one spot in your office for 10 minutes.

You do not need to take a special position or posture, though I recommend having your feet on the ground (grounding). Before you do this, stand up briefly and shake out any stress, anger, anxiety, etc so that you are free.

In those 10 minutes do not worry about all the things that come into your heads. Breathe in and out (Breath of Life) , acknowledge all thoughts – and they will come — and ask them to return later. Just focus on your breath and notice how you feel.

You may put your hands on your heart or place them on your upper thighs with the palms facing upward. Just be comfortable is key here.

This is also a great exercise to engage in before meetings that may be stressful or even during those meetings.
Engaging in this lowers stress, decreases your blood pressure, increases your awareness and focus, as well as your appreciation for yourself.
