Grief and Mourning at Work: How to Get the Support You Need (Part III)

In this 3-part series on Grief and Mourning at Work: How to Get the Support You Need, we have covered the importance of having an open line of communication with  your employer, and how to educate fellow employees to help you with tips on helping  yourself. In the third and final part, we connect the dots and circle back around to managing them with self-care. Remember those 4 areas of acute symptoms of grief: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual ? When you take care of yourself, you are healing, and it helps with your ability to return to work after loss and your performance while on the job.

Spiritual Wellness

by Denise O’Malley, founder of You Define Wellness

There are few subjects we tend to not bring into the workplace for employee wellness education – spirituality is one of them – even though spiritual wellness is one of the eight key dimensions of being happy, healthy & thriving.

Tuesday’s are Corporate Wellness Days at You Define Wellness!

By Denise O’Malley, founder of You Define Wellness

We understand corporate wellness isn’t the highest priority for a company. To succeed, your organization has to focus on the objective of your purpose – be it selling widgets or services – not the health of your people. Employee wellbeing? It’s an afterthought, a fluffy, nice-to-do but not necessary function of running your business.

Grief and Mother’s Day 2021

If I were to count the Mother’s Day without my daughter, it is 30 and without my son it is three. Counting Mother’s Day without them however does not make me feel better. It actually makes me feel worse. Focusing on them not being with me causes the wounds to reopen. I relive the days they passed and the heartache that came along with it. Those are the bad memories associated with them. I would rather focus on the good, so I have been intentional to look for the positive and remember the joy I had with them.

by Denise O’Malley, founder and Healthy Living Maestro at You Define Wellness

When white light passes through a prism, the light is separated into its component colors with each color being integral to creating a beautiful rainbow.  At You Define Wellness, each color is symbolic of a dimension of wellness and illustrates how critical each component is to healthy living.

Sounds good, but this is real life.  How do you achieve harmony with all the dimensions?

The Journey to Finding Balance and Harmony: One woman’s true story

by Denise O’Malley, founder and Healthy Living Maestro at You Define Wellness

The achievement of ‘wellness’ has oftentimes seemed like an exercise in spinning plates to me.  Just when I’ve got the plates all spinning, one starts to falter.  I focus my attention on that plate and just as it starts spinning correctly, other plates start wobbling.  I repeat the pattern until I’m thoroughly exhausted and all the plates suddenly crash to the floor.

Sound familiar?

On February 21, 2021, all of my plates crashed.  All of them.
